CHEDDAR

CheddarMeet Cheddar – great name for a great young dog.  Found wandering in the road when a tiny babe he was taken in by a lovely family who chipped and vaccinated him hoping that they could keep him.  However, now at 6 months old Cheddar needs a fenced in garden and/or someone who is at home to be company for him.  As you can see, great with kids and other dogs Cheddar is a very handsome young lad who I am hoping will find a home very soon.

AT PEACE OVER THE RAINBOW.  LOTS OF FRIENDS THERE CHEDDAR,  HAVE FUN.

IVOR ADORABLE !!

IvorMeet Ivor the Adorable !!  Ivor was found half starved, fending for himself on the outskirts of Toulouse.  With the help of two lovely couples he landed here at Poorpaws.  Sooooooo scared at first he sat in the car looking at the other dogs, who were dying to say hallo, pitifully growling but wagging his tail at the same time as if not sure whether to put on a tough guy act or show his true friendly colours.  The true colours are well and truly out and he is fabulous.  At the moment he is all legs and head with his little ribs showing through but he will soon be his correct weight and ready to go.  We think he is about three or four months old and will probably be on the larger side of medium – however, what do I know, I usually get it wrong !!  Ivor loves to play but sadly we only have older fogies here at Poorpaws so the sooner he goes to a home where he has another pal to play with the better.  Also before I can’t bear to see him leave !!

RESERVED !! ………………………..ADOPTED !!!!

HEMILIA

DalmatianHere is a rather beautiful young lady, at eight months old Hemilia finds hereself in need of a new home as her owner is ill and can no longer care for her.  Now I know all Dalmatians are supposed to be loop de loop, but Hemilia is very well behaved, affectionate and a total darling.  She will be chipped, vaccinated and sterilised (to avoid anyone using her as a cash cow) before adoption.

ADOPTED !!

HOBBY

HobbyMeet Hobby a most beautiful Border Colley !  Hobby is just over a year old and sadly looking for a new home because his owner has to move for her work and will have to take a smaller apartment.  Ideally of course Hobby would love to run and run in plenty of space and have an owner who is present so he can show himself to be the loyal companions that Borders are.  If you can offer this gorgeous creature a suitable home just get in touch with me.

                                                                                ADOPTED

KIRBY

KirbyRemember Kirby ?  Mum to the six pups, the whole family having been found in a ditch ?  Well this lady is still looking for a home and she has come on a bundle over the last few months.  Much less timid, LOVES to play with other dogs, totally non aggressive and is now an all round delight.  She would however have to have a well fenced in garden as she is a bit of a wanderer !!   Two or three years old, Kirby is fully vaccinated, chipped and sterilised.

Update 26/08  Well our Kirby looks like she is getting a fabulous chance.  She is to travel to Holland with a few  other French hunting dogs,  to a wonderful refuge.  The Dutch are fantastic carers of animals and whereas hunting dogs have little chance of new homes here, in Holland they are adored.  So it’s tissues out and fingers crossed for Kirby.

LOLA

Lola 022 (2)Though I say it myself I think we’ve got a great selection of pups at the moment and just when you thought I’d overdosed on the ‘cute’ word, along comes Lola !  The final of Gania’s pups to find a home and slightly smaller than the others.  ideally we would like Lola to go to a home where there is another dog to play with as she loves to ‘get right in there ‘ !  Interested in Lola who has her bags packed in the Dordogne ?  Then contact Ann – ann.walsh@orange.fr. Oh just look at those chubby cheeks !!

30/05/13  ADOPTED !!!

GARY

GaryFor Jack Russell lovers down in the South of France, we have two year old Gary who is in a refuge at Cannes ( see me for détails).  Gary is a very affectionate bit of a lad, typical JR.  Will run if not fenced in and does not like being left alone.  Will chase cats.  Ideal home ?  Young retired couple – in fact any active retired couple, where Gary will have company all the time.  An apartment would be fine so long as he has good walks.  Due to formalities at the Cannes refuge prospective owners would have to go there personally so I’m sorry we cannot offer the usual transport assistance.

31/05/13  Update on Gary.  He is sharing an enclosure with another little dog and is being very good.  Gary just loves/needs company.  A Poorpaws well-wisher has offered to pay the costs of getting Gary out AND petrol for anyone going to get him, in order that this little lad finds a new kind home very soon.

5.7.13  EXCELLENT NEWS !!!  Gary has been adopted by a couple one of whom is a profressional gardener and Gary goes everywhere with him.  A wonderful home for this boy who has had a couple of upsets in his Young life.

XENA

CharlieA Brittany Spaniel !  My favourites !  Eight year old Xena is a fabulous dog, great with everyone and everything.  Well, almost everything, she’s rubbish at hunting so is looking for another job as your very best friend.

31.05.13  Lucky Xena looks like she has a new home to go to next week !!

ADOPTED !

Hayley

Holly ne home and Danielle's dogs 038Hayley is one of those pups you just cannot pass by.  Slightly shy and so, so beautiful.  Mum is a Jack Russell so she will probably stay small, Dad a passing handsome stranger.  I would say it was one of those warm evening heat of the moment things but as we seem to be far from getting any warm evenings, it was probably less romantic !  Whatever, Hayley here is seven months old and just waiting to brighten your life.

ADOPTED !

Holly ne home and Danielle's dogs 037

YORKIE

Holly ne home and Danielle's dogs 036I know there are a lot of Yorkie fans out there and this little boy is a dancing prince !  18 months old and left behind when travellers moved on.  If you are interested, don’t delay, he won’t stick around long I’m sure !

ADOPTED  !!!  (Said it wouldn’t take long !)

Gania’s pups

Well aren't we just the cutest ?!
Well aren’t we just the cutest

Remember Gania, the little three legged black terrier sort of dog ?  Well I told you that to our shame it was found out that the little slapper was pregnant when she left the refuge.  She is not at all ashamed and is rather proud – and so she should be, how can one be cross when she has produced such lovely little babes.  We think that Marius the Beagle is the father so they should be smallish medium sized.  There are two boys and the rest are, obviously, females.  They are in the Dordogne and if you are interested I will be happy to put you in touch.

10.05.13  Only two left.  if you are interested, please call Ann Walsh  on 0964120802.

ICARE ( Don’t blame me, I don’t name them all !)

Border Pup 16.04.13A beautiful tricolour Border Colley pup !  Border Collies are very popular, so I’m sure that he will go quickly, so if you are interested, don’t heistate.  These dogs are great and very intelligent, they are not only super companions but need brain stimulation too.  So proper training and / or work and/or agility is best for them.

ALREADY  RESERVED !!!

NEWA (As I said, I don’t name them all !!)

Deaf English SetterThis beautiful year old English Setter had a truly horrific start to life and we aim to make sure that it’s happiness from now on in.  Newa is great and has learned a lot despite being deaf, so we are looking for a special home here, perhaps with another dog that she can follow and learn from.

ADOPTED !

HOLLY

HollyDon’t even look at Holly unless you can offer her the very best home possible,  unless you have the time to train her properly,  unless you will make her a whole and important part of your life and unless you can give her three million times the love that I can !!  Holly is a super special girl who has stolen my heart completely but with 17 dogs here who will never be adopted I have to give her her chance – also Ernst is wondering why no-one has shown interest in her !!  Oh, by the way, she is four months old and a right royal mixture !!

02.05.13

Holly will be joining Hector and Houston for a trial period.

Sue is hoping she – Holly – will be a Very Bad Girl !

HELSA

Helsa golden RetrieverHelsa is a beautiful 11 month Golden Retriever – with pedigree no less.  However, the breeder (don’t we just love those people ?!) failed to mention that she is in fact much smaller than standard size.  So the people who bought her don’t want her – loveable huh ?.  How sad I am that they have lost several hundred euros !!!  So, let’s get this girl to a family who will love her for who she is rather than make her into a cash cow.

WISKY

Wisky is a lovely little eight year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  The owner of this little guy has had to go into a retirement home and is fretting over his pal.  Wisky is a great little man and it would be lovely to reassure his anxious owner.

ADOPTED !!

Cavalier King Charles

Raspberry and Widdle

Raspberry and Widdle B

Raspberry

OURGENT !!

Sometimes shit happens. The very distraught owner of these two smashing handsome lads has to, due to serious circumstances beyond her control, put them up for adoption. They really are gorgeous dogs, Raspberry (a previous rescue dog) being the larger, five years old and absolutely great with other dogs, cats and children. Widdle (hmm wonder why he was named that !) is a cute little six month old boy who was found wondering in the street after travellers moved on. Taken in to be a pal to Raspberry it would be great if these two could be homed together, or perhaps by friends each taking one ? Although when photographed together Raspberry looks much bigger than Widdle, he is in fact slightly smaller than a Labrador. Raspberry and Widdle are situated in the Vaucluse but Poorpaws will happily pay transport costs if necessary.

This really is a very sad situation and we cannot bear to see Raspberry return to a refuge or Widdle to have the experience.

Update 02.05.13  Raspberry and Widdle are now in foster care.  Widdle has been found to have an injury so adoption is on hold for the moment but we are still actively seeking a home for Raspberry.

JACK RUSSEL

eden3OK all you JR fans, here is a lovely young lad, just two years old. Regulars will know I’m not a JR fan having been on the receiving end of their teeth a few times, but this little guy is an exception, he is friendly with everyone including dogs AND cats !! At the moment he is in foster care but seeking that forever home where he will get his fair share of the affection going round.

ADOPTED !!

ALHOA

Alhoa - CahorsThis gorgeous, gorgeous girl is four years old and is so confused to find herself in a refuge after four great years being loved. Sadly she has grown to big and strong for her elderly owner (for goodness sake why are puppies given to already elderly folk ?!) so due to lack of forethought poor Alhoa is at the refuge in Cahors. You can visit her there, hurry I’m sure she’ll go quickly.

ADOPTED !!

GOLDIE

Goldie Brit SpanielXAnd here we go again, another Brittany Spaniel, well, as near as dammit. This pretty young lady was seen wondering around for a week before it was realised that she was lost or dumped. At about 2 years old she has been found to be a lovely natured girl deserving of a happy home. We’ve called her Goldie.

DEMO

Demo PinscherLittle Pinscher Demo here is another dog left by Travellers and is a real cutie. He has a long tail (true Pinschers don’t have one), is 18 months old and ideal for anyone looking for a small breed.

Hinza

Hinza Brittany SpanielOk, someone has to adopt this little beauty really quickly before I get into real trouble at home. A two month female Brittany Spaniel (my favourite breed) who is just so adorable I can’t even bear to look at her in case I weaken. Hinza was left behind and given in to care when Travellers moved on. Brittany Spaniels make the most wonderful companions, quick to learn and faithful is their middle name. Hinza is a real prize.

Milou le chat

milouIf you are looking at this website, chances are that you are looking for a dog, not a cat !! However I have agreed to post Milou on the site as he is a very unhappy bunny (well, cat actually). His beloved owner has gone into a home and Milou, who is used to love and affection and company, finds himself Home Alone. He is about 9 years old and is TERRIFIED of dogs. So we need a catfree home with perhaps retired people who like to sit by a fire and make a fuss of Milou. Anyone ?

Great news ! Milou has been, chipped, neutered, vaccinated and …….
ADOPTED !!!!!!

Houston and Hector

houstonhector2Houston and Hector, the last two of Kirby’s pups to find homes and two of the most loving.  At four months now, they are both fully vaccinated and chipped.  Totally used to other dogs and to cats by the shedloads !

15.03.13 Ok Susan time to get over yourself and move on – Hector and Houston are ADOPTED (sniff sniff) !

Cocker 2

cocker3Another Cocker, the young man is three years old, again with a great character.

ADOPTED !!

Cocker

cocker2

cocker1

All you Cocker lovers here is a year old boy who has a lovely character and just can’t wait to get out of the refuge and on with his life.
ADOPTED !!

Boxer Pup

boxer2

boxer1

This gorgeous little five month boxer pup was adopted but found to be too lively for an apartment and needs space and active owners. He is a GORGEOUS little boy who surely deserves a better start in life .

Berger Malinoise

bergerThis fine lady is a Malinoise cross. She is under two years old, sterilised and no worries with cats or children. She will make a lovely pet whilst at the same time her appearance will put off any unwanted intruders – who could not know that they would probably be licked into submission !!

Hissa

hissaYou’ve heard of the Laughing Policeman ? Well here’s the Laughing Dog !! What’s the joke Hissa ? Proof that the adorable Hissa is a great dog who at just 5 months finds herself in a refuge already. I’m sure that, thanks to you lovely lot, she won’t be there for long. Just come and see her and prepare to lose your heart.

Gania

gania

ADOPTED !!
Looking for small and lovely ? Well sorry, I’m too old and spoken for (and actually not very lovely) ! However, look at the gorgeous little Gania here. Just over a year old this young lady is looking for a special home with people who will overlook her little handicap of having had her paw amputated. This affects her not one little jot so don’t let it put you off.

Marius

mariusOohs and aahs in abundance here. Just try to look away from those eyes ! I have a real soft spot for Beagles and two year old Marius here is just a delight. You are looking for affection and faithful on four legs ? Marius is your boy.

ADOPTED !!

Helia

heliaHelia a beautiful beige coloured Pointer is just under two years old and is sterilised. For more info just give me a call.

Gus

gusHallo, I’m Gus and as you can see I’m a very handsome terrier/Jack Russell. I was found two weeks ago and all attempts to find my family have failed, so I’m looking for a new one. I’m told you Brits love JR’s so hopefully there is someone out there for me. I’m about 18 months old.

Zazou

Adopted !

This poor lad looking so sad had a great start to life but it only lasted a year as his owners who adopted him as a pup, have to move to a small apartment. Not a great life for poor Zazou so if you are looking for a lovely lab type, Zazou is for you. Chipped and vaccinated.”

Harvey

Adopted !

Harvey, just a gorgeous little boy. At four months old we cannot understand why he hasn’t been snapped up. A Border Colley with perhaps a bit of Setter in there, Harvey is everything you could want. He is obedient, affectionate, toilet trained, just the best. When Ernst and I were away for a few days he went to stay with our neighbours where he played with their very big and bouncy Oscar and had the time of his life. He came home with a glowing report on his behaviour. Just at the right age to start his training, don’t hesitate. What a great way to start his (and your) New Year !

Youngsters

Little boy adopted !

These two youngsters are only five months old yet already are in the refuge. Not a great start to life. The golden sweetie is a female and the very handsome black lump of fluff is a male – he is going to be GORGEOUS ! Come on, make November 2012 the month they find happiness.

Black Lab

Yes, I know black Labs are two a penny but I really am special and I’m missing my brother (next to me in the photo) soooo much. He was lucky enough to be adopted a few days ago and I’m soooo lonely now. I’m only five months old and I’d love my own home too.

Porthos

ADOPTED !!!!! We just couldn’t be happier. A very, very Happy New Year to you Porthos, you deserve it.

Right, here’s a promise. I’m not going to eat any more chocolate until this lad finds a lovely home. He is just five years old and has lived ALL HIS LIFE at the refuge at Castelsarrasin (near Moissac). A shy little boy who does not deserve not to know a cosy bed in front of a fire and a romp in the garden. His name is Porthos so please, if you are looking for a scruffy looking angel, get on the ‘phone. You may also like to bear in mind that I can get VERY nasty when deprived of chocolate for any length of time !

Barney and Courtney

2013 has had a great start for Barney and Courtney who were adopted within 24 hours of each other.

Let me introduce you to Barney and Courtney. So named because they were found in a barn and a courtyard – geddit ?!
These two pure mongrels, with perhaps a hint of Beauceron, are a delight. Both very confident, friendly and (very) full of life. A boy and a girl who just want to have fun.

Braque Pups

These two magnificent Braque pups are at the refuge in Cahors. At just about four months old who knows why they have been dumped as this is a very popular breed. One male and one female. In love ? Then don’t hesitate !

Obladi

OBLADI is a beautiful German Shepherdx two years old, sterilised, chipped and vaccinated. A great dog, fine with children, very affectionate and still loves to play the fool. One problem, she doesn’t like other dogs and tends to ‘have a go’, so we are looking for a home without other dogs – and preferably with no neighbouring dogs either !

Whiskery Cutie

OK, here’s a cutie. Ideal for all you lovers of the whiskery type. Just about a year old he turned up in someone’s garden. Not identified and a week has gone by without any sign of owners looking from him. So, we’re counting on someone out there. By all accounts a very friendly little chap who can’t wait to be your pal.

Carcassonne Pups

The staff at Carcassonne were horrified to have twelve, yes TWELVE, pups dumped on them a couple of days ago, as well as being anxious about the poor unknown mother who must be missing her babes. So there are SOS’s going out everywhere to find homes. Thought to be shepherd mixes they are, obviously, seriously cute. You can see more photos on the Dog Links website. If you are interested you can get in touch with me, or with Dog Links or, of course, with Carcassonne refuge direct. Don’t worry about distance, we can help there. Thanks.

Brittany Spaniel

Tissues at the ready ……………….ADOPTED !!

This is a heartbreaker. This poor little chap who is only four months old, was found tied to the gates of the refuge in Cahors. The staff couldn’t imagine why such a beauty had been dumped but they soon found out. He is blind. How could anyone do something so cruel as to leave a blind dog, who would not know what was going on, tied up ?

I’m bursting with anger and desperation that such people even exist. So, we are looking for a wonderful family who would be willing to give him a home. We know that blind dogs can lead perfectly happy lives and as he is young he will soon learn his way around. A home with a friendly intelligent dog would be best so that this one could follow.

If you can offer him a loving home please contact me or the refuge in Cahors direct on 0565 22 66 32. Many thanks.

Honey

This is Honey, an eight month ……..honey !! A Golden Retriever crossed with a sheepdog, this beautiful babe was a well intentioned but not thought through gift ! Her owner loves her but lives in a small property with small garden and as she is not in the first flush of youth, is finding Honey a bit too much to handle ! Honey needs space to run around and would adore another dog to play with. She is housetrained, quick to learn and fine with children and cats. Honey is vaccinated and will be chipped and sterilised before adoption.

Harper

You know me, not one to get all gushy, cutesy over any dog (liar, liar, pants on fire), but Harper here is just too cute for his own boots ! He turned up at the house of a very kind couple together with a large hunting dog. the large dog has, hopefully, been rehomed and the couple would have loved to have kept Harper but the timing is off, so he is here at Poorpaws.

Rather timid at first he has found his paws but is very respective of the other dogs and cats. Thought to be about seven months, this little Griffon type has now been chipped, vaccinated and will very soon be without his ‘family jewels’ ! I only collected him this morning and he has followed me like a shadow ever since. He’ll make a super pal so those of you who like the whiskery type, don’t hesitate.

Spot

Spot here is in a spot of bother ! A lovely little lad who was to be kept with his mum along with a sister. However the owner is now finding that three dogs is quite a handful (try 14 !!) and has reluctantly decided that Spot would be better off in a new family. So, a rare chance to adopt a BEEYOOTIFUL Australian Shepherd of about 5 months.

Freddie

Dry those tears Freddy, you’re off to a new home next week !!

Is that a tear I see on poor Freddie’s face ? Very possibly. poor Freddie has been looking for a home for the last few months. he is being looked after by some lovely people who, sadly, cannot keep him. Obediant, clean, loving, good with other dogs but would be quite happy on his own. He is vaccinated and will be chipped, so all you Border Collie lovers, give us a call.

Malinois

Here are two gorgeous Malinois x boys. Very popular here in France they are faithful to their owners and have a similar character to the German Shepherd so you won’t have any unwanted visiters as they are impressive to look at.

German Shepherd

All you German Shepherd (or as near as damn it !) lovers out there, here’s a treat, FOUR pups looking for good homes. About four months old they have been rescued and need good homes. Most are the lovely beige black colouring but there is one more black than the others who will need lots of tlc as he is extremely frightened having been badly treated poor love.
