31ST JULY 2025

Well Happy Wimbledon everyone ! Best time of year and last year I promised friends I would create a little tribute, so here it is.

Ten minutes later ……..

“Look what I found outside Mum ……..!”

I got back from a great few days in England meeting up with friends and having lunch with my eldest brother and family at a pub on the seaside which I hadn’t been to for 50 years. Unsurprisingly it had changed a bit ! It reminded me of the time when I was there with a school friend x years ago whose father was a policeman. That evening the police decided to do a ‘raid’ on the pub and others in the lane, to chuck out all the under age drinkers and that evening the first my friend’s dad chucked out was his daughter and me !

Great news on the adoption front, Samba, the very big Great Dane mix has gone to a brilliant home in the Pas de Calais and Oslo the Ridgeback is gearing up for a move to a home in the centre of France. Which goes to prove that when you really, really want a dog, distance is no problem ! Paco the sheepdog cross was homed very quickly, he is staying closer and has been adopted by a couple who have adopted from us before. To keep right up to date you can visit Danielle Diczy’s Facebook page. At the moment there are puppies galore all waiting for vet checks and first vaccinations. Once ‘cleared for take off’ there will be Lab mixes (sort of) and pups from a Chihuaha mum but we are not sure who dad is, he didn’t leave a forwarding address ………

If you are looking for someone to groom, or ‘toilettage’ your dog, I can firmly and highly recommend Caroline at Princi Beaute at Trespoux Rassiels. She is excellent and a very gentle person, which is why I was mortified when I took Utah (she with the ball above) for a bath after she had rolled in something despicably pooey. Utah is nervous of new people but your best friend after a few minutes. Well, she decided she was NOT going to be groomed to the point where I was afraid that she was going to nip Caroline (who was perfectly prepared to take the risk and continue). So I dragged Utah out and we did the walk of shame back to the car, leaving poor Caroline’s beauty parlour smelling anything but ! Once home Utah swanned into the garden to rapturous greetings from the other dogs and I swear I heard her say “See, easy peasy, you just have to put on an act to get out of a bath ! Then you look apologetic”

“Sorry Mum …….”

For anyone who is interested, Ernst is not doing so well, he has ulcers on his feet from the elastic stockingette thingies cutting into him. So we are back to grumpy. Never mind, we are going to visit his family in Germany later in the month, so I might be able to leave him there !
